Kabul — Some drivers and traders bringing fruit and vegetables to Kabul from other Afghan provinces say municipal fees collected at entry points to the city are adding to their growing expenses.

According to TOLOnews, fees referred to as "Tah Jayi Darwaza" are collected from vehicles at certain entry locations. One driver said that, in addition to transport, fuel and market fees, municipal charges increase his business costs. He cited a fee of roughly 100 to 200 afghanis per vehicle.

Agricultural products must be sold quickly because fruit and vegetables can spoil. Higher transport costs may affect farmers, shopkeepers and consumers, although the extent of the impact may vary by location.

Improving markets, providing appropriate storage and making fee schedules transparent are important considerations for the agricultural trade.
