Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched the second phase of the Livestock Card scheme on October 14, 2026. According to the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan, the programme is intended to provide livestock keepers with access to interest-free loans for the purchase of animal feed and related needs.

The provincial government has set a target of improving the nutritional condition of 600,000 animals over the next two years, with an emphasis on increasing meat production. Officials presented the card-based mechanism as a way to support smaller livestock businesses and farmers facing high feeding costs.

The programme's effectiveness will depend on applications, eligibility screening, timely loan disbursement and farmers' access to the approved services. Applicants should rely on the provincial authorities' current rules for specific financing terms.
