The International Committee of the Red Cross has donated 53 items of physiotherapy and orthopaedic rehabilitation equipment to the Amir-ul-Momineen Hospital in Afghanistan's Daykundi province. The country's Ministry of Public Health said on October 13 that the equipment was valued at 1.2 million afghanis.

The delivery included wheelchairs and other devices used in physical rehabilitation and orthopaedic care. Health officials said the donation could help increase the hospital's ability to serve patients requiring mobility assistance and longer-term rehabilitation.

The ministry's stated valuation was AFN 1.2 million, rather than AFN 1 million. The effect on patient outcomes will depend on how the equipment is distributed, maintained and used in the hospital's services.
