Liverpool beat LASK 6-3 in Linz, Austria, on Wednesday in the second round of the Champions League league phase. Bradley Barcola scored three times and was named UEFA's player of the match.

The Guardian said Barcola, a £123m signing from Paris Saint-Germain, had gone six appearances for Liverpool without a goal or an assist before the match. It was the first hat-trick of his professional career.

Ronald Araujo opened the scoring in the first half with a header from Kostas Tsimikas's corner, his first Liverpool goal. The Guardian said Barcola made it 2-0 just 96 seconds later, and he added his second from Florian Wirtz's pass before half-time.

Jeremie Frimpong headed Liverpool's third after the break. LASK substitute Robert Ljubicic scored his club's first goal in the Champions League proper, before Barcola completed his hat-trick from Frimpong's low cross and Lewis Koumas also scored. LASK substitute Florian Flecker then scored twice in four minutes.

According to The Guardian, Liverpool's 26 shots equalled the club's record for a Champions League away game, and Koumas replaced Steven Gerrard as the youngest Liverpool player to score and assist in a Champions League match. The win followed Sunday's 3-0 defeat by Manchester City. Liverpool visit Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.

Elsewhere, UEFA said Real Madrid scored three goals in the final eight minutes to win 4-3 at Roma, and Aston Villa beat Fenerbahce 6-0 for their biggest European win. Matchday two produced 78 goals in total, 46 of them on Wednesday.
