Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Monday that an oil tanker caught fire after hitting a naval mine south of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the IRGC statement, carried by Iranian state media, there was an explosion and fire in the vessel's engine room. The IRGC said the vessel was allegedly on an unauthorised southern route with its positioning and navigation systems disabled.
There is no independent confirmation of the incident. No tanker name or origin has been given, and no casualty or cargo details have been provided.
The IRGC also said two tankers caught fire after hitting mines the previous day. Those are also IRGC-only claims, with no independent confirmation. This story reports the IRGC's claims, not a verified mine strike.
