Iran's ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, said on Sunday that the border between the two countries remains open and that Tehran has imposed no restrictions on exporting Iranian goods, including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), to Pakistan. The clarification followed reports that the Iranian border had been closed.

"Iran's borders with all its neighbouring countries remain open," the envoy said in a statement posted on social media. Closing them to immediate neighbours, "particularly brotherly Pakistan", would be "neither logical nor in the interests of either side" under the current circumstances, he added.

Moghadam instead pointed to changes in Pakistan's E-Form procedure for imports from Iran, which he said had left traders effectively unable to send cargo across. Consultations with Pakistani officials on the issue are under way, he said.

According to the ambassador, several hundred LPG trucks have crossed the Rimdan border into Gabd on the Pakistani side but have been stuck there for weeks without being unloaded or cleared, further disrupting the movement of goods and bilateral trade.

He stressed that cross-border trade was part of agreements reached at the highest level between the two countries and said Tehran remained committed to working with Pakistan to clear the obstacles. In Balochistan's border districts, Iranian LPG is a key fuel for homes and businesses, so a quick clearance of the stranded trucks matters to traders on both sides.
