Officials in Herat and a delegation from Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urban Development have discussed transport projects and trade routes linking western Afghanistan with Iran.
Herat Governor Islam Jar met an Iranian delegation led by Deputy Minister Seyed Abdullah Arjaei. The talks covered progress on the Abu Nasr Farahi road, expansion of transport cooperation at the Islam Qala border crossing and further development of the Herat-Khaf railway.
Herat’s governor described the railway and Islam Qala crossing as important economic routes for Afghanistan. He also raised problems affecting imports and exports at the border.
The Iranian delegation said it was prepared to cooperate on addressing those issues and supported wider trade and transit links. Both sides also discussed increasing bilateral commerce and improving the infrastructure used by traders moving goods between Afghanistan and Iran.
