The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reprimanded Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf and fined him 20% of his match fee for "displaying conduct contrary to the spirit of the game" in Sunday's ODI against England, while England were fined for a slow over rate.
It was the thrilling tri-series match in which Pakistan, chasing 242, recovered from 154 for nine to win by one wicket thanks to an 89-run stand between Shadab Khan and Rauf, sealing a place in the final. Rauf hit the winning run.
According to the ICC, the incident came at the end of the 46th over of Pakistan's innings, when Rauf appealed for a wide at the non-striker's end and then argued with England all-rounder Will Jacks. He raised his bat and continued the exchange despite a warning from umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, then brushed past the umpire as he walked towards Jacks.
One demerit point has been added to Rauf's record, taking his total to five because it was his third offence within 24 months. Under ICC rules, sanctions are doubled if a player reaches eight demerit points. Rauf served a two-ODI ban last year after breaches in Asia Cup matches against India.
England were fined 15% of their match fee for being three overs short of the target. Both Rauf and England captain Harry Brook admitted the offences, so no formal hearing was needed. Pakistan play the final on Saturday, while England face Sri Lanka on Thursday to keep their hopes alive.
