Spain's national football federation (RFEF) has postponed all 24 Copa del Rey games scheduled for Wednesday following a high-speed train crash in central Spain that killed at least 30 people and injured around 80. Authorities have warned the death toll could rise.
The crash happened when a high-speed service slammed into the rear of another train that had stopped on the track. The federation said the games were postponed "in solidarity with the victims", adding that the entire Spanish football community was united in grief and had offered to help the authorities assist those affected.
Among the postponed games were Navalcarnero against Real Betis, Salamanca against Celta Vigo and Tavernes against Valencia. A revised schedule will be announced later. First-round games on Thursday will go ahead, and La Liga has not announced any postponements for the weekend.
Clubs including Real Madrid and Barcelona sent condolences to the victims' families. Sevilla observed a minute's silence before training on Wednesday and cancelled coach Luis Garcia Plaza's scheduled news conference.
