Armed robbers shot dead a teacher at his home in Afghanistan's eastern Logar province and fled with cash and gold. The Taliban-run provincial police command said the killing took place on the night of Monday, November 2, in the Zarghun Shahr area of Mohammad Agha district.

Police identified the victim as Mohammad Aref. Several armed men entered his home and shot him, authorities said, before escaping with 142,000 afghanis, $900 and 350 euros, about $3,500 in total, along with an unspecified amount of gold. Two people have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the killing and robbery, according to police.

According to sources, reports of armed robberies, violent crime and targeted attacks have risen in several provinces in recent weeks, adding to public safety concerns. The Taliban, who say they have restored security nationwide since returning to power in 2021, continue to face criticism over civilian protection and the transparency of criminal investigations.
