Flour buyers in Sindh have some relief. The provincial government has cut the release price of official wheat by Rs500 to Rs4,500 per 40 kilograms, and Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the move had already brought flour prices down by Rs17 a kilogram.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi after a provincial cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Memon said the cabinet had also approved a $1 billion urban development programme, backed by the Asian Development Bank, for five divisional headquarters across Sindh. It will focus on water supply, drainage, sanitation and solid waste management.
The cabinet also approved a scheme worth nearly Rs3 billion to improve water supply and drainage in Nawabshah, and more than Rs500 million in additional funds for five development schemes in Jamshoro district, including reverse osmosis plants in Sehwan.
Memon also announced a Traffic Management Authority to tackle Karachi's worsening congestion, with legislation to be presented soon. A smart traffic management system will be introduced, he said, along with strict action against vehicles with fancy or illegal number plates and those displaying firearms.
