A 13-member delegation of Afghan traders and industrialists has left for Iran to strengthen trade and economic ties between the two neighbours. According to sources, the visit is taking place at the official invitation of the Iran-Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and in coordination with the Afghanistan-Iran Joint Chamber of Commerce.
During the trip the delegation is due to meet Iranian economic officials, attend bilateral trade meetings and visit industrial centres around the country. Talks will focus on new investment opportunities, expanding joint ventures, sharing expertise and deepening cooperation between the two countries' private sectors.
Iran is one of Afghanistan's main trading partners, but reports in recent weeks have pointed to disruption in Iran's trade with its neighbours because of US sanctions and the regional war. Traders on both sides are now looking to direct contacts to keep commerce moving.
