Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday directed authorities to cancel the licences of petrol pumps that fail to facilitate registered beneficiaries of the Prime Minister's Fuel Relief Programme. According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, he also expressed satisfaction with the scheme's implementation and transparency.
The review meeting was told that 15,519,282 citizens had registered so far, including 15.06 million motorcycle owners and 449,000 owners of vehicles up to 800cc. More than 63.1 million fuel tokens had been issued, of which over 59.4 million had been used, and Rs28.6 billion had been paid out as of November 4.
Officials said separate call centres had been set up for consumers and petrol pumps to answer queries and handle complaints. Under the scheme announced in September, owners of motorcycles and rickshaws get a Rs100-per-litre subsidy on 20 litres a month, while owners of vehicles up to 800cc get the same subsidy on 30 litres. The federal cabinet has already extended the programme until the end of December.
