Afghanistan's Ministry of Industry and Commerce says foreign investment in the country exceeded $1 billion over the past five years.
Spokesperson Mohammad Asif Elyas said investors from China, Iran, Türkiye, Qatar, Uzbekistan and other countries put money into oil and gas, electricity, mining, cement, food and other sectors. The ministry says the projects created thousands of jobs.
The total is a government figure, and a comprehensive independent investment-flow dataset covering the same period was not available. The stated amount therefore remains an official estimate, while the scale of realized investment can also be assessed through project implementation, capital inflows, employment and productive capacity.
