Dassault Aviation has flight-tested two artificial-intelligence algorithms on its Rafale fighter jet as part of efforts to integrate AI into future combat-aircraft systems, Reuters reported on September 22.
One algorithm was developed by Dassault engineers and the second in collaboration with French defence-technology company Thales.
Dassault did not disclose the specific operational functions tested, but said both algorithms had reached a level of maturity that made them eligible for consideration in future Rafale upgrades.
The company said the broader goal is to use AI to support human crews rather than replace them.
Defence manufacturers around the world are experimenting with AI for faster decision-making, sensor management and coordination with uncrewed aircraft.
The tests confirm successful flight experimentation, but they do not mean the algorithms are already deployed operationally across Rafale fleets. Further development, validation and integration would be required before any production upgrade.
