Local authorities used the same statement to provide much larger figures for domestic and foreign tourism in the province this year, but those aggregate totals were not independently verified. The arrival of the 70-member Russian group is a recent example of an organised foreign tour reaching Panjshir.
Panjshir is one of Afghanistan's best-known domestic tourism destinations because of its mountain valleys, scenery and relatively cool climate. One group visit on its own does not establish a broader tourism boom; longer-term trends would require consistent data on arrivals, stays, spending and repeat travel.
