Pakistan's electricity regulator NEPRA has issued a notification authorising an additional charge of about Rs1.11 per unit in October 2026 bills to cover differences in fuel costs. According to Dawn, the adjustment relates to electricity generation costs for August 2026.
The regulator set the precise increase at Rs1.1086 per kilowatt-hour. The decision was estimated to place an additional burden of about Rs16 billion on consumers. The adjustment applies to relevant consumers of K-Electric and former WAPDA distribution companies.
Lifeline customers, electric vehicle charging stations and consumers on specified prepaid tariffs were exempted. The rate also applies to relevant consumers covered by a special package for increased consumption.
This is a fuel cost adjustment for a particular month rather than an increase in the permanent base tariff. Its impact on bills will vary according to electricity use and the applicable customer category.
