A road constructed through the Wakhan Corridor in Afghanistan's northeastern Badakhshan province has reportedly reached the area near the Chinese border, a development seen as significant for regional connectivity.
The Wakhan Corridor is a narrow geographic strip linking Afghanistan with China's Xinjiang region.
Completion and regular use of the route could in future improve overland links between Afghanistan and China, support trade and make remote parts of Badakhshan more accessible.
Regular cross-border commercial traffic, however, would still require the relevant administrative and border arrangements between the two countries.
