Afghanistan's economy has undergone notable changes over the past five years, with trade, industry and infrastructure development emerging as important areas of economic activity.
According to a recent TOLOnews review, Afghan authorities during this period sought to maintain and expand activity related to domestic revenue, trade, industry and infrastructure.
Infrastructure projects have also occupied an important place in economic policy because improved roads, energy supply and trade routes can connect Afghanistan more effectively with domestic markets as well as neighbouring countries.
The Afghan economy, however, continues to face significant structural challenges and external financial pressures. Recent progress therefore needs to be viewed in the broader context of the country's continuing economic constraints.
