Afghanistan and Turkmenistan have agreed on steps to expand road transport and transit cooperation following a two-day meeting in Herat.
Afghanistan’s Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation said the delegations reviewed transport and transit issues and agreed to establish a joint commission focused on road transport between the two countries.
The sides also agreed to facilitate visa issuance for drivers and traders and to work on increasing the movement of transit vehicles. The meeting was hosted by Afghanistan and chaired by the transport ministry.
The measures are intended to make cross-border commercial movement easier and provide a regular mechanism for dealing with transport problems. Afghanistan and Turkmenistan share wider energy and infrastructure interests, while the latest agreement focused specifically on practical road transport, transit procedures and facilities for people involved in bilateral trade.
