Afghan and Turkmen officials have discussed accelerating a 500-kilovolt electricity transmission project intended to increase power flows from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan.
Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat said its chief executive, Abdul Haq Hamkar, met Murad Artikoff, head of the TAP project, and a Turkmen delegation. The meeting reviewed progress on the transmission line and related energy projects.
The sides also discussed completing outstanding work on the Noor-ul-Jihad substation in Herat, supplying electricity to Bala Murghab district in Badghis and advancing the TAP project.
The Turkmen delegation supported faster completion of the 500-kilovolt line and said this could allow more electricity to be transferred to Afghanistan. It also expressed interest in early implementation of TAP and said an initial project roadmap was expected to be approved.
