Turkmenistan’s ambassador to Pakistan says natural gas supplies to Afghanistan through the TAPI pipeline could begin in 2027 if the Serhetabat-Herat section is completed as planned.
Ambassador Atajan Movlamov said construction of the strategically important section is expected to be completed by the end of this year. He said completion would create the conditions needed for gas deliveries to Afghanistan and later Pakistan.
The TAPI project is designed to transport Turkmenistan’s natural gas through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India. The planned pipeline is about 1,800 kilometres long and is designed for an annual capacity of 33 billion cubic metres of gas.
For Afghanistan, the project is part of wider regional energy connectivity. The ambassador’s timeline remains linked to completion of the current construction stage before gas transfers can begin.
