Islamabad — The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued grid-use charges for large consumers participating in the competitive electricity trading market. According to NEPRA, the charges range from 6.23 to 19.62 rupees per unit across different categories.

An October 10 Dawn report said the new framework would allow consumers to purchase electricity directly from generators under contractual arrangements and transmit it through the national grid. An initial competitive auction of 400 megawatts is expected. The fees cover specified grid costs in addition to transmission and distribution.

The notification does not guarantee an identical reduction in every consumer's overall bill. Final costs will depend on the electricity purchase contract, transmission fees and other statutory charges.
