RAWALPINDI: According to The Express Tribune, Fakhar Zaman told reporters at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium that the team had drawn up several plans for the tri-series, some of which could not yet be made public.
He said the World Cup was at the back of the players' minds and that, after a long break from one-day cricket, the series was a good chance to build the right combination. Fakhar added that most players were coming off the first-class season, so they were in rhythm and would not find the 50-over format long.
Pakistan's ODI squad includes experienced players such as captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, Babar Azam and Salman Ali Agha, while younger players including Saim Ayub, Hasan Nawaz and wicketkeeper Saad Baig will be looking to cement their places.
Fakhar acknowledged that the long wait for a major title weighed on the squad. Reaching finals and semi-finals was one thing, he said, but nothing matched the joy a nation feels when its team lifts a trophy.
The series follows a double round-robin format, with the top two teams meeting in the October 31 final. Pakistan and Sri Lanka play the opening match in Rawalpindi on Sunday.
