LAHORE: According to Geo News, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi told journalists informally that the chief of a political party was unhappy at not being given the KP governorship or any role in the new administrative setup.
Without naming him, Naqvi claimed the leader had relied on the establishment's backing for decades to stay in politics, alleging that even his party's air tickets had been arranged by the establishment. He said political differences should be voiced through argument and facts, not indecent language and accusations.
The minister also asked leaders now worried about the resources of the former FATA districts why they had stayed silent when those areas were denied their share for years. He said KP faces serious security challenges and needs peace and collective effort rather than political confrontation.
The report says Defence Minister Khawaja Asif told Geo News' programme Naya Pakistan that those opposing the move had wanted a role in the new setup but did not get one. Separately, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz criticised JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, saying a senior politician who had himself been a victim of terrorism should not be supporting those who back it.
President Asif Ali Zardari imposed an emergency and governor's rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 11 under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution. Governor Faisal Karim Kundi now exercises the provincial government's functions, assisted by an 11-member advisory council.
