World Bank President Ajay Banga has set a goal of quintupling the bank's critical minerals business over five years, identifying 20 partner countries.
Under the Metals and Minerals plan, the bank targets $19 billion in financing in fiscal years 2026–2030, compared with $3.6 billion in 2021–2025.
The $19 billion figure is a target, not already approved funding, and is measured on a fiscal-year basis.
Critical minerals such as copper and lithium feed batteries, electric vehicles and modern technology, making their supply chains a global priority.
