DHAKA: According to The Express Tribune, Bangladesh's fire service confirmed that at least 10 people were killed when fire broke out at a wooden resort and restaurant on Inani Beach in Cox's Bazar on Saturday morning.
Citing Bangladeshi broadcaster Jamuna TV, the report said the blaze started early in the morning while people were asleep, injuring at least nine whose identities have not yet been confirmed. Those affected are believed to be tourists, as the area is a popular holiday destination.
The fire service said two firefighting units, working with local authorities and police, fully extinguished the blaze. Border Guard personnel also joined the rescue effort.
The fire may have started from a kitchen stove or an electrical short circuit, though the cause has not been verified. District authorities have formed a committee to investigate.
