ISLAMABAD: According to The Express Tribune, the Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guarantee (CPPA-G) has filed a petition with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on behalf of the DISCOs, seeking approval for a Rs2.5624 per unit increase under September's monthly fuel adjustment.

The report says the increase is also expected to apply to K-Electric consumers under the government's uniform tariff policy. NEPRA has scheduled a public hearing on the petition for October 29.

According to the filing, the reference fuel cost for September was Rs7.4596 per unit, and the proposed adjustment reflects the gap between that reference and the fuel costs actually incurred during the month.

Total generation in September stood at 13,217 gigawatt-hours, with 12,760 GWh delivered to the DISCOs after transmission losses. Hydropower was the largest source at 4,834 GWh (36.58%), while imported coal supplied 16.31% and nuclear 14.32%.

Expensive fuels pushed up costs. Power from high-speed diesel cost Rs62.14 per unit, furnace oil Rs44.86 and RLNG Rs39.74. Imported coal came in at Rs17.23 per unit, while local coal at about Rs5.99 and nuclear at Rs2.90 were among the cheapest sources.

If NEPRA approves the request, the extra charge will be recovered from consumers in upcoming bills.
