PESHAWAR: According to The Express Tribune, opposition parties have vowed a joint struggle against the imposition of governor's rule and an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, demanding constitutional supremacy, parliamentary sovereignty and free and fair elections.

Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai, speaking at a news conference at the Peshawar High Court, said he would contact opposition parties and convene an all-parties conference (APC). Resigning from the assemblies remains an option, he said, but the opposition prefers a peaceful, constitutional struggle and is open to talks.

Achakzai alleged the federal government had acted unconstitutionally in removing the elected provincial government. He demanded information on the whereabouts of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and voiced concern over reports that provincial ministers, lawmakers and party workers had gone missing.

He said the opposition had set out its demands in response to the government's offer of talks: upholding the Constitution, withdrawing controversial amendments, restoring parliament as the main decision-making forum and setting up an independent commission to ensure free and fair elections.

Balochistan National Party chief Akhtar Mengal said governor's rule amounted to blaming the entire province for terrorism, noting that years of operations in Balochistan had not ended insecurity there. Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas also criticised the government and vowed to keep up his struggle.

These allegations were made by opposition leaders, and The Express Tribune's report did not carry a government response. More on The Express Tribune.
