ISLAMABAD: According to War Monitor, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has criticised the government's policy towards Afghanistan, warning that border tensions and trade disruptions are damaging businesses, employment and the national economy.
Fazlur Rehman alleged that emergency measures in the former FATA districts could be linked to control over mineral resources and possible deals with American investors. He also claimed that China and Russia have reservations about the role of outside powers in the region.
Questioning Pakistan's investment climate, he said security, transparency and the rule of law are essential to attract foreign capital. He compared investment conditions in Pakistan and Afghanistan and criticised the government's handling of the economy.
War Monitor noted that his allegations about mineral resources, foreign agreements and the positions of China and Russia have not been independently substantiated. The report did not include a government response.
