Karachi — Margalla News: An anti-terrorism court in Karachi has acquitted seven more accused in the Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case, citing insufficient evidence.
Those acquitted include former SHO Amanullah Marwat, Muhammad Shoaib alias Shooter, Gada Hussain, Syed Sadaqat, Riaz Ahmed, Raja Shamim Mukhtar and Muhammad Mohsin Abbas.
According to the prosecution, 18 police officers and personnel, including former Malir SSP Rao Anwar, had already been acquitted in the case. Seven other accused had been declared absconders during the proceedings and later surrendered before the court.
The defence argued that none of the prosecution witnesses had testified that Naqeebullah Mehsud was killed in a staged police encounter.
Naqeebullah Mehsud was killed in Karachi in January 2018 during a police encounter that later became the subject of a high-profile investigation and prolonged court proceedings.
Following the latest ruling, all 25 accused in the case have now been acquitted.
