Verizon is investing $70 million in a nationwide initiative to expand artificial-intelligence training for job seekers, small businesses and educators in the United States.
Reuters reported that the telecom company will work with major nonprofit programmes including Goodwill Industries and aims to reach hundreds of thousands of people. Training resources will draw on material from technology companies including IBM, Google, Anthropic, Microsoft and OpenAI.
Verizon CEO Dan Schulman said AI will reshape the workforce and argued that large companies should contribute more money to help workers acquire skills for specific AI-related jobs.
The company announced last year that it was investing $20 million to help departing employees gain AI skills after a large round of job cuts. The new effort adds another $50 million, bringing the total commitment to $70 million.
