Pakistan has deployed between 30,000 and 40,000 troops to Saudi Arabia to help defend the kingdom's land borders and support drone and missile interceptions, Reuters reported, citing a Pakistani official.
According to the report, the troops arrived in waves, with deployments beginning last year and additional personnel arriving after the latest regional escalation.
The Pakistani official said Islamabad had not decided to send Pakistani troops into Yemen in a combat role. Reuters also reported that Pakistan's defence ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the military support.
The deployment comes as Saudi Arabia seeks help from allies to strengthen protection of its borders, oil facilities and other critical infrastructure against Houthi drone and missile attacks. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye are also holding high-level consultations under their defence cooperation framework.
The 30,000-to-40,000 figure is therefore being reported as information attributed by Reuters to a Pakistani official rather than as a separately announced public troop figure from the Pakistani government.
