Pakistan's National Emergency Operations Centre for Polio Eradication confirmed on Monday, October 5, that the country has recorded its sixth polio case of 2026. Dawn and the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan reported that the case was detected in Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the NEOC statement, the affected child is a seven-year-old boy from Union Council Ghundi-A in Jamrud tehsil. The Pakistan Polio Eradication Initiative has launched a detailed case investigation.

Official figures show that five of Pakistan's six polio cases this year have been recorded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including four in southern districts. Authorities said additional response measures are being planned in the affected area.

APP reported that the planned response includes reaching older children, using both oral and injectable polio vaccines and strengthening routine immunisation.
