Kabul — Afghanistan’s Ministry of Finance says the Tariff Committee, at its third meeting of the 1405 fiscal year, changed customs tariffs on several imported goods as part of measures aimed at supporting domestic industry and production and promoting trade.
According to the ministry, the tariff on batteries was raised from 12% to 16%, construction paint from 16% to 30%, leather footwear from 50% to 80%, gypsum from 50% to 80%, and sanitary diapers from 20% to 25%.
The ministry said the customs tariff on cardiac stents — sometimes referred to locally as heart “springs” — was reduced from 8% to 3.5%.
It added that tariffs on cement, iron pipes, refrigerators and raw materials used in carpet weaving are also under review.
