Afghanistan has won three medals at the Asian Games in Japan across cycling and wushu. Cyclist Fariba Hashemi finished second in the women’s road race with a time of 2 hours, 50 minutes and 5 seconds to claim a silver medal.
In wushu, Mohammad Khalid Hotak and Hamed Ashrafi each secured bronze medals in their respective events. Their results added two more medals to Afghanistan’s campaign after Hashemi’s cycling performance.
The medals give Afghanistan representation on the podium in two different sports. Afghan athletes are competing across a broader programme at the Games, with the cycling and wushu results among the country’s most notable performances so far. The final overall medal tally will depend on the remaining competitions involving Afghan athletes.
