Bangkok — Margalla News: Large areas of Thailand's capital were flooded after nearly 300 mm of rain fell over 48 hours, prompting authorities to declare Bangkok a disaster-affected area.
Reuters reported on Sunday that water levels had begun to recede in many areas, although residents in some flooded neighbourhoods remained stranded in their homes.
Major roads were inundated, some vehicles were partly submerged and transport was disrupted across parts of the city.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration said 233 temporary shelters had been prepared and about 4,200 people were using them.
Officials continued pumping water from major canals, while forecasts indicated more thunderstorms and isolated heavy rain could follow.
