Rome/Catania — Margalla News: Sicily's Catania Airport has suspended all flight operations until 21:59 GMT on September 27 after volcanic ash from Mount Etna affected aviation around the airport.
Reuters reported that airport operator SAC said in an updated notice that volcanic ash was continuing to disrupt operations, prompting the suspension of both arrivals and departures.
Catania is among Italy's busiest airports and Mount Etna's frequent activity periodically disrupts flights serving eastern Sicily.
Passengers have been advised to check their flight status with their airline before travelling to the airport.
The current suspension is scheduled to last until 21:59 GMT, subject to further updates depending on volcanic activity and weather conditions.
