Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye convened an emergency meeting of the Strategic-Political and Defense Committee of the Makkah Alliance for Defense in Riyadh on October 5, according to a joint statement released by Pakistan's Foreign Office.
According to the statement, the committee decided to move immediately toward practical implementation of collective defence commitments, take measures to provide agreed military forces and capabilities, and ensure their rapid deployment in Saudi Arabia in line with approved arrangements and national laws.
Retired Lt Gen Nauman Mahmood of Pakistan was appointed the alliance's first Secretary-General for three years, the statement said. The parties condemned the attempted targeting of Makkah and Madinah and attacks on Saudi cities and civilian and economic facilities.
Dawn reported on October 6 that Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said Saudi forces alone are currently involved in combat operations against the Houthis, while Pakistani and Turkish forces are in supportive roles, with Pakistan involved in reconnaissance.
