The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) says 512 civilians were killed and another 1,236 injured in border-related incidents between October 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026.
In a report released on Thursday, October 15, UNAMA said border-related incidents between July 1 and September 30 this year killed 13 civilians and injured another 20.
The mission also documented injuries to four civilians, including two children, caused by the explosion of a pressure-activated explosive device in Kunar province.
Border clashes and tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have repeatedly led to border crossing closures, the displacement of families and civilian casualties. Residential areas and residents of border regions have also been affected.
Pakistan's military had previously rejected the findings of an earlier UNAMA report in July, which documented 499 civilians killed and 1,216 wounded between October 2025 and June 2026, calling that report baseless. The new figures extend the same UNAMA documentation through September 2026.
