ISLAMABAD: According to Geo News, a statement from the Prime Minister's Office said Shehbaz Sharif assured Saudi Arabia of all-out support, affirming that Pakistan stands with the kingdom in safeguarding its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
The assurance came as newly arrived Saudi Ambassador Dr Rajeh Tami Albugamy called on the prime minister. Shehbaz congratulated the envoy on his new role and said Pakistan-Saudi ties had made remarkable progress in recent years.
According to the statement, the prime minister strongly condemned the recent escalation in Houthi attacks on the kingdom, which have killed and injured innocent people, including Pakistani nationals. A day earlier, the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said the Houthis had tried to strike Saudi airports, ports and oil facilities.
Geo reports that coalition spokesperson Turki al-Maliki said the Houthis had launched 20 attacks on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport this month, killing 17 people and wounding 333.
Shehbaz described the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement and the Makkah Joint Defence Alliance as historic milestones in the two countries' fraternal ties, and thanked the Saudi leadership for its economic support to Pakistan.
