LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board has quietly allowed former captain Mohammad Rizwan and opener Imamul Haq to represent their teams in the seventh round of the President's Trophy Grade-I first-class tournament, which starts on Monday, Dawn reported.
Rizwan plays for SNGPL and Imam for OGDCL in domestic cricket. Both had been under investigation by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) over alleged betting and gambling activities following Pakistan's defeat in the second Test in England earlier this year. The NCCIA has not issued any official statement on the matter.
Amid the probe, Rizwan was denied permission to play in the tournament when it began last month. The PCB has still not issued a formal statement, but SNGPL coach Mohammad Hafeez said Rizwan would lead the side in the next match if available.
OGDCL sports department president Farah Batool told Dawn that Imam would play the seventh-round match after receiving directions from the PCB. According to the report, Rizwan had sought a no-objection certificate for the Nepal League, but was cleared only for domestic cricket.
