According to The Express Tribune, Tokyo Paralympic gold medallist Haider Ali finished second in a tight men's F37 discus final at the Asian Para Games in Nagoya. His best throw of 57.20 metres was also a personal best.

A final decided by centimetres

Uzbekistan's Kudratillokhon Marufkhujaev took gold with 57.39 metres, a new Asian Para Games record, leaving just 19 centimetres between gold and silver. India's Haney took bronze with 57.04 metres, only 16 centimetres behind Ali. Ali's six throws measured 51.63, 56.51, 54.98, 53.65, 57.20 and 54.45 metres.

Speaking to The Express Tribune from Nagoya, the Gujranwala-born athlete thanked God, said his hard work had paid off, and added that he had trained for a full year for the event.

Another medal for a decorated career

The 41-year-old is Pakistan's most successful para athlete. He won long jump silver at Beijing 2008, long jump bronze at Rio 2016, discus gold at Tokyo 2020 and discus bronze at Paris 2024, and has four gold and two bronze medals from previous Asian Para Games.
