According to War Monitor, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a police patrol on Thursday within the limits of Miryan police station in Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and officers returned fire.
Blast after the gunfire
Police reports say an explosive device planted on a motorcycle went off shortly afterwards, in what is suspected to have been a remote-controlled IED. Two civilians were injured and taken to hospital. No police personnel were hurt.
Investigation launched
Authorities have opened an investigation. No group has claimed responsibility, and the incident has not yet been independently verified. Bannu has been among Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's most volatile districts in recent months, with frequent attacks on police and security forces.
