According to War Monitor, a civilian was reportedly killed on Wednesday, October 21, during an exchange of fire between security forces and suspected militants in Rodi village, within the limits of Kulachi police station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Dera Ismail Khan district.

Gunfire during a cordon

Citing security sources, the report says personnel had cordoned off the area for an intelligence-based search operation when armed men opened fire. The sources said an attempted attack on the forces was foiled.

Initial reports say a passerby was killed in the firing. The circumstances of the death, the identity of the victim and whether any militants were hurt have not been independently confirmed.

Operation under way

Security sources said the operation was continuing. Dera Ismail Khan has been in the news repeatedly in recent weeks over militant attacks and security operations, including the abduction of bus passengers near Ramak.
