Fifty-one people, including 17 government officials, were reportedly abducted in the Kulachi area of Dera Ismail Khan district in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday.
According to sources citing local journalists, more than 20 armed men allegedly belonging to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan carried out the abductions. The circumstances, the identities of those taken and their whereabouts remain unclear.
Police and the district administration have not issued any statement, and none of the details, including the number of people abducted, has been independently verified.
Dera Ismail Khan and the neighbouring Tank and South Waziristan districts have seen a rise in militant activity in recent months, with government employees and security personnel repeatedly targeted. For the families of those missing, the most pressing question is where their relatives are and when they might return.
