Justice Munib Akhtar, the senior puisne judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, took oath as Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan on Wednesday. Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar administered the oath at a simple ceremony at the Supreme Court in Islamabad.
Justice Akhtar will perform the duties of chief justice while Chief Justice Yahya Afridi is abroad on an official visit.
Supreme Court judges, the director general of the Federal Judicial Academy, the secretaries of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan and the Supreme Judicial Council, and law officers attended, with the Supreme Court registrar conducting the proceedings.
