Police in Lakki Marwat, a southern district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killed two suspected militants, including a suicide bomber, in a shootout on Wednesday. District police said the operation had foiled a major terrorist attack.
According to police, a suspicious car with tinted windows was spotted at Gandi Chowk and a police team rushed to the scene. On seeing the officers, the occupants opened fire and tried to flee. Police returned fire, killing both men in the car, one of whom police described as a suicide bomber.
Lakki Marwat has been a hotspot of militant activity for months, with repeated attacks on police and security forces. Authorities did not immediately release the identities of the dead or say which group they belonged to.
