Pakistan and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to deeper counterterrorism cooperation and expressed concern over the continuing threat from terrorist groups, notably the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), operating in and from Afghanistan. The statement came from the Foreign Office after the annual Pakistan-UK Counterterrorism Dialogue in Islamabad on Wednesday, November 4.

According to the Foreign Office, the two sides reviewed the changing global and regional security environment, including threats posed by terrorist organisations and transnational networks. The UK offered condolences for the innocent lives lost in terrorist attacks in Pakistan and reiterated its support for Islamabad's fight against terrorism.

Both sides described a stable and secure Afghanistan as a cornerstone of lasting peace and prosperity across the region. They also reviewed ongoing bilateral and multilateral cooperation and restated their shared commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms.

A key part of the talks focused on emerging trends, including misinformation and disinformation campaigns, the exploitation of social media platforms and the misuse of new technologies. The two countries agreed to exchange best practices and explore new avenues of partnership to tackle these threats.

The UK acknowledged Pakistan's contribution to regional stability, and both sides agreed to strengthen institutional links and maintain regular engagement. The next round of the dialogue will be held in London in 2027 on mutually agreed dates, the Foreign Office said.
