OpenAI unveiled Dots, a new class of always-on AI agents, at its annual DevDay on Tuesday. Reuters reported that the agents are designed to pursue user goals across applications with relatively little supervision as OpenAI expands its enterprise AI business.
Dots use OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra model and can manage evolving projects, including updating sales proposals as customer requirements change or building working demos for review. Users can communicate with Dots through Slack and Microsoft Teams, while the agents can draw on tools including Codex and ChatGPT Work for research, data analysis, document preparation and software development.
OpenAI said users can define custom permissions and rules for Dots. Sensitive actions such as changing passwords or permanently deleting data require explicit consent. The company also said Dots operate on dedicated cloud computers and business customer data is not used for model training by default.
